Mgr. Viera Martinková, Ph.D.






Viera holds Bachelor and Master Degrees in International Relations and Diplomacy from Matej Bel University in Banská Bystrica, Slovakia (2004, 2006), where she focused in the European integration, also taking internships at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry Home Affairs of the Slovak Republic. She earned her PhD. in International Relations from Faculty of Social Sciences, Charles University (2012, thesis Institutional aspects of the democratic deficit: The role of national parliaments in EU matters). She worked as an analyst and project coordinator in the Association for International Affairs (2010-2013) and as a postdoctoral fellow in the Centre français de recherche en sciences sociales (CEFRES) in Prague (2013).

At the IPS, Viera has been a member of the Department of International Relations since 2008. She participated in the creation of the IPS Alumni programme. Viera teaches classes on international relations and European studies both in bachelor (PMV, PVP) and Master programmes (MV, MAIN) and is the coordinator for students for both Czech and English Master Programmes in International Relations. Her research interests include EU institutions and their decision-making and democratic legitimacy of European institutions, particularly the issues related to national parliaments, inter-parliamentary cooperation and public sphere.
