The Institute of Political Studies has several double degree and joint degree contracts.
GEOPOLITICAL STUDIES
Students of the first year of the Geopolitical Studies Master´s programme might enroll for the Double Degree of Geopolitical Studies and East Asian Studies with the National Taiwan University. They will spend their second year in Taipei, combining their skills in the geopolitical analysis received in Prague with first-hand knowledge of the East Asian region. The specialization also includes basic Chinese courses. The students successfully finishing the double degree will receive a Master´s diploma from both institutions.
INTERNATIONAL RELATIONS
The Master's programme International Relations has been developing a long-term double degree project with the University of Konstanz, specifically with the Department of Politics and Public Administration. At this institution, several students of the International Relations programme can study the Master Politics and Public Administration programme at the same time each year. The study of Politics and International Relations at this institution is of a high standard and among the best in Germany and Europe, with Politics at this university currently ranked 1st in Germany and 38th worldwide in the Shanghai Global Ranking in 2023.
INTERNATIONAL SECURITY STUDIES
Master in International Security Studies (MISS) at the Department of Security Studies offers a double degree option in cooperation with the prestigious Department of Political Science and Public Administration at the University of Konstanz, Germany. The selected students have the opportunity to spend one year at each university and obtain a Master’s degree in Politics and Public Administration from the University of Konstanz, in addition to a Master’s degree in International Security Studies from Charles University. This double degree programme is an opportunity for students to develop cross-field expertise in security studies, politics and public administration and, apart from their core specialisations, gain highly advanced skills in data processing and data analysis at the University of Konstanz. It also provides the possibility to study across the two top higher education institutions in Europe with an international reputation for their impactful research and a global outlook. Students completing this double degree programme will be equipped with both the range of knowledge and the set of skills necessary for a prospective conferral of a doctorate, as well as a national or international career – be it in either the public or private sector. Applicants for this double degree programme are selected, based on merit, after the first semester of their studies.

The selected students have the opportunity to spend one year at each university and obtain a Master’s degree in Security Studies and Criminology from Macquarie University, in addition to a Master’s degree in International Security Studies from Charles University. This double degree programme is a compelling choice for those seeking to expand their expertise in security, strategic and defence studies and develop cross-field specialisation in intelligence or criminology too. Students will be able to choose from a broad set of not only traditional, but also exclusive, unique and interdisciplinary courses, reflecting the most contemporary security trends and delivered by highly qualified academic staff, themselves involved in pioneering research. Graduates will be prepared to pursue a doctorate or a career in either the public or private sector, especially as the key principle of this double degree programme is flexibility, allowing each student to develop their own - either broadly or narrowly oriented - expertise. At Charles University, students can opt for either or all (the so-called general security studies track) of the following specialisations: (i) peace and conflict studies, (ii) strategic and war studies, (iii) global and regional security, (iv) security and technology. Macquarie University allows them to choose from: (i) security, strategic and defence studies, (ii) counter-terrorism, (iii) cyber security analysis, (iv) intelligence, and (v) criminology. Applicants for this double degree programme are selected, based on merit, after the first semester of their studies.
Erasmus Mundus International Master in Security, Intelligence and Strategic Studies (IMSISS) is an Erasmus Mundus Joint Master Degree (EMJMD) awarded by a consortium of European universities: University of Glasgow, United Kingdom; Dublin City University, Ireland; Charles University, Czechia; and the University of Trento, Italy, working in conjunction with a wide network of associate partners, including the University of Cádiz, Spain, and OTH Regensburg, Germany. It is a unique interdisciplinary programme offering students a cutting edge training in several relevant security areas. Students on this degree programme will examine a broad range of contemporary security challenges such as terrorism, civil war and conflict, mass migration, energy supply security, cyber security and new technologies, as well as transnational and serious organised crime. Students will also explore intelligence and strategic approaches used by governmental and non-governmental actors to combat these threats. The degree adopts a unique approach to the study of security by combining theoretical, applied and empirical knowledge and skill sets. Students will have the opportunity to meet and work alongside a range of academics and researchers from international partner universities and think tanks from around the world, as well as practitioner experts from governmental and industry security and defence sectors.
